Shire homes, specifically
Post-war homes in Caringbah, Gymea and Sutherland — small closed kitchens, often opened up to living areas.
1970s–80s brick homes in Miranda, Sylvania and Jannali — galley or L-shaped kitchens ready for islands.
1990s two-storey homes in Menai, Illawong and Bangor — decent-sized kitchens with tired laminate and corner spaces that do not work.
Designed before anything is removed

Questions people ask before they commit
How much does a kitchen renovation cost in the Sutherland Shire?
As a 2026 planning guide, a straightforward kitchen replacement typically runs $20,000 to $35,000, a mid-range custom kitchen $35,000 to $55,000, and a larger designer kitchen with an island and butler's pantry $55,000 to $90,000 or more. Appliances, layout changes and benchtop choice move the number most.
How long will we be without a kitchen?
Usually two to four weeks on site, because cabinetry and benchtops are made off site before the old kitchen comes out. Stone benchtops are templated after cabinets are installed, which is often the longest wait.
Can I still get engineered stone benchtops?
No. Engineered stone benchtops were banned nationally in Australia from 1 July 2024 because of silicosis risk to workers. Alternatives include natural stone, porcelain, solid surface, laminate, timber and newer low-silica surfaces.
